About Cape Veg Surveys

Cape Veg Surveys is a botanical and vegetation consultancy on the Garden Route, run by Benjamin Walton — a registered botanical scientist with field experience across agriculture, mining, housing, resorts and industrial development.

Qualifications

  • B.Sc. Botany and Zoology
  • M.Sc. Forestry — Conservation Ecology
  • Botanical Science (Pr.Sci.Nat.) No. 138424

What we do

I specialise in terrestrial botanical surveys and assist applicants in obtaining municipal approvals for building. As a specialist I work alongside Environmental Assessment Practitioners (EAPs) on either full EIAs or the smaller-scale Basic Assessments for developments, depending on which listed activities are triggered in the EIA Regulations of NEMA.

Experience

  • Land Use Advisor in government — overseeing impact reports and writing decisions for development in agriculture, mining, housing, resorts and industrial activities
  • Independent specialist consultant — assessing environmental impacts
  • Environmental Control Officer (ECO) — overseeing builds on site
  • Plant rescue and rehabilitation of land

From pre-application advice through field surveys, reports and on-site ECO oversight — we help your project move through the environmental process cleanly and honestly.
